Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of ruling Awami League (AL) lawmaker from Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) constituency and Jhenaidah district AL President Abdul Hyee.
In a message of condolence, she prayed for eternal peace of the valiant freedom fighter’s departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family, said an official release.
According to family sources, Abdul Hyee breathed his last early this morning at Bumrungrad Hospital in Thailand at the age of 71.
Hyee was born on May 1, 1952, in Mohammadpur village under Shailkupa Upazila of Jhenaidah district.
He was the first person to hoist the national flag after independence in Jhenaidah.
Abdul Hyee was the first elected Member of Parliament (MP) from Shailkupa constituency in 2001. He was elected as a lawmaker five times from that seat. In 2005, the valiant freedom fighter became president of the Jhenaidah
district AL.
Hyee also served as the state minister for the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry from September 16, 2012, to November 21, 2013.
