Staff Reporter:

‘Jatka Conservation Week-2024’ will be observed from March 11 to 17, aiming to create mass awareness about preserving hilsa fry to boost its production.
The slogan of the week will be “Hilsa Halo Machher Raja, Jatka Dhorle Hobe Saja”. Fisheries and Live-stock Minister Md Abdur Rahman will inaugurate the ‘Jatka Conservation Week 2024’ at Chandpur Sadar Upazila on March 11.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Task Force on Hilsa Resource Development at the department of fisheries in the capital yesterday.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md Abdur Rahman presided over the meeting where Secretary of the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Md Selim Uddin, Director General of the Department of Fisheries Syed Md Alamgir, Director General of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Dr Md. Zulfikar Ali and members of law-enforcing agencies were present.
The minister said, like previous years, the Jatka Conservation Week will be observed through various programs at district and upazila levels.
The program include screening of videos and documentaries on Jatka conservation, discussion on radio and television, workshops on hilsa, holding meetings and seminars, conducting mobile courts and cam-paigning for protection of Jatka.
Jatka Conservation Week has been observed every year since 2007 to create mass awareness about pre-serving hilsa fry.
