Special measures for SSC examinees in border areas if affected: Nowfel

Staff Reporter:

Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel on Thursday said special measures will be taken for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) candidates along the border areas of Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban if they are affected by the situation in Myanmar.

He came up with the announcement at a press conference on SSC examinations which began across the country on Thursday.

Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Suleman Khan, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka Chairman Prof Tapan Kumar Sarker, and Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Director General Prof Nehal Ahmed were present at the event held at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital.

Nowfel said due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was not possible to hold the SSC and its equivalent examinations on time and full syllabus for the last three years.

As the condition is normal now, he said, this year the exam is being held on the full syllabus, full marks and time.

“We do believe that the exams are being held in a peaceful and festive environment and the arrangements made for all, including students, teachers, and guardians, are very satisfactory.”

The minister sought the cooperation of all in conducting the exams successfully. He also urged the guardians not to crowd the exam centres.

While replying to a query about the revision of the evaluation system, the minister said, “We are putting emphasis on checking the practical skills of students, coming out of their memory evaluation.

“We are working to make the assessment procedures understandable for guardians. In this regard, experts are thinking about whether the results can be given on the basis of number or percentage.”
