COVID-19 death in country stands at 5

icdrb  pressAnother elderly man has died from the coronavirus in Bangladesh, taking the total death toll from coronavirus in the country rises to five, said the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
However, no coronavirus case was detected in the last 24 hours although 82 people were tested during the period which is good news indeed. The total number of people tested so far is 794.
Besides, two more patients have recovered from the disease, raising the number of patients who have already made recovery to seven.
With this, the number of infected people in the country is now 27.
IEDCR Director Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora revealed the latest coronavirus figures at a press briefing through online on Wednesday.
She said the patient was aged 65 and had diabetes and hypertension. "He was a family member of a previously infected overseas patient. He was diagnosed with the virus on March 18 and was in an isolation ward of a local hospital. However, he was moved to Dhaka on March 21," she said.
Currently, 47 people are in isolation and 47 others in institutional quarantine, Prof Flora said.
She said coronavirus testing facility will be extended to some hospitals across the capital, including Dhaka Shishu Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital. "Gradually, the testing facilities will be extended to divisional medical college hospitals as well," she added.
The IEDCR claimed that no evidence of nationwide community transmission of coronavirus has so far been found.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the coronavirus or COVID-19 has reached 18,895 globally as of Wednesday.
It has so far infected 422,629 people around the world, according to worldometer.
Of them, 294,855 are currently being treated with 13,095 being in serious or critical condition.
So far, 127,774 cases had outcomes and of them, 108,879 (85 percent) recovered and 15 percent died.
COVID-19 is affecting 197 countries and territories around the world and one international conveyance (the Diamond Princess cruise ship harboured in Yokohama, Japan).
The World Health Organization on March 11 declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic.
