11 vehicles torched in 15 hours

At least 11 vehicles were set on fire in the past 15 hours till 9am on Thursday at different places of the country, during the nationwide blockade enforced by BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and like-minded opposition parties.

Besides, miscreants set alight a stationary commuter train at Tangail railway station in the early hours of Thursday. Two compartments of the train were damaged partially in the incident.

Of the 11 vehicles, five were burnt in Natore, Bogura, and Chapainawabganj, two in Chattogram, and one each in Dhaka’s Dohar, Sylhet Sadar, Chandpur, and Jhalakathi, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.

The vehicles included five trucks, two buses, two covered vans, and two human haulers, locally known as Leguna, it said.

As many as 21 firefighting units worked to douse the fire incidents.
