PM inaugurates Ctg-Cox’s Bazar train service

Staff Reporter:

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the long-anticipated Chattogram (Dohazari)-Cox’s Bazar rail service on Saturday.

She inaugurated the rail service by waving a green flag at around 1.25pm at Cox’s Bazar station following a public meeting held on the station premises.

The prime minister and her entourage also boarded on train to travel to Ramu railway station– around 12 kilometers away from Cox’s Bazar station.

The launch of the rail line not only connects the tourist haven Cox’s Bazar as a new district, but it also holds the promise of potential regional connectivity as an integral component of the Trans-Asian railway network.

In addition to an enhanced communication system, this fast-track mega project is expected to attract foreign and domestic investments, expand tourism in its heartland Cox’s Bazar, and create vast employment opportunities.

Currently, the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway serves as the principal connection between the beach city and the rest of the country. However, it struggles to cope with the large influx of tourists and goods transportation to and from Cox’s Bazar.

This project is poised to alleviate these issues, offering safer, more convenient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly transportation options for both locals and tourists. It will also enhance the efficient transport of forest and agricultural products, in addition to fish, salt, and raw materials of rubber.
