DMP reward for catching arsonists

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a reward of Tk. 20,000 for handing over those who are carrying out violent acts and setting fire on cars and buses in the name of blockade.
“Tk. 20,000 will be given to whoever will hand over arson attacker to police during the siege pro-gram of BNP,” DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman told a meeting with Petrol Pump Owners Association at his office yesterday.
“We have detained many of those who are setting fire on cars, throwing petrol bombs, resorting violent acts at various places, the DMP chief said adding that the locals have already handed over many of them to police.”
He said that the DMP is always alert to make the capital safe, adding, “Police have been working round the clock to ensure the safety and security of the petrol pumps by patrolling at day and night. During the political programs, police have been working in uniform and plain clothes. Our intelligence activities are also going on.”
“Dhaka is a big city, many people live here. Some things are happening. Many have been arrested and brought to book. Many have been arrested red-handed. We will also give cash reward to those who will cooperate us to arrest the culprit’s red-handed,” said Habibur Rahman.
He said the main objective is to ensure safety and security of the Dhaka city during the political programs.
“As a democratic state there will be political programs by various parties, it is natural. Everyone has to accept it. However, in the name of political program, they are burning vehicles and public properties, hurling petrol bombs. As of conscious citizens, people in the transport sector should be responsible and resist it,” he added.
The DMP Commissioner urged all to be remained alert about the arson attacks. “There is a rule by the police to visit petrol pumps at least once a month. Our officers are often unable to go due to busy schedules. Cooperate and give information if our officers visit to petro pumps. If there is any problem, contact the nearest police station,” he said.
Habibur Rahman also urged the petrol pumps owners for installing CCTV cameras at all petrol pumps to ensure their safety and security.
