A Dhaka court yesterday placed former lieutenant general Chowdhury Hasan Suhrawardi on eight-day remand in a case filed with Paltan Police Station over his connection with Mian Arefy, fake “advisor” of US President Joe Biden.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the order as police produced Hasan Suhrawardi be-fore the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand in the case.
On Tuesday, detective branch (DB) of police arrested Hasan Suhrawardi, who allegedly prompted Bang-ladeshi US national Mian Zahidul Islam Arefy to address a BNP press briefing identifying himself as a so-called “adviser” to US President Joe Biden.
Earlier, a Gopalganj resident named Mohiuddin Shikder filed the case against Arefy, BNP leader Ish-raque Hossain and Lt Gen (retd) Hasan Sohrawardi, on October 29 with Paltan Model Police Station.
In the case, police arrested Mian Arefy from Hazrat Shahjajal International Airport on October 29 as he was trying to depart Bangladesh. He is now behind the bar.
According to case statement, on Saturday evening (October 28), Suhrawardi escorted Arefy to the BNP’s central Nayapaltan office where he spoke before a group of reporters alongside party activists, identify-ing him as a close Biden advisor and “member of (US) national democratic committee”.
