Speaker of the National Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has paid last respects to Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on behalf of Bangladesh.
The tribute was paid on Friday at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla Mosque, where dignitaries from across the world gathered to honour the late Iranian leader.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad is leading the country’s delegation at the state mourning ceremony in Tehran.
Ahead of the ceremony, Speaker Hafiz Uddin held a meeting with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
At the outset of the meeting, Ghalibaf welcomed the Bangladeshi delegation. Hafiz Uddin expressed his profound sorrow over the death of Ayatollah Khamenei and strongly condemned the killing.
He conveyed the deepest condolences and solidarity of the government and people of Bangladesh to the government and people of Iran during what he described as a period of national mourning.
The two parliamentary leaders also discussed the longstanding ties between Bangladesh and Iran. Hafiz Uddin highlighted the countries’ enduring friendship, cultural links and people-to-people relations, expressing optimism that bilateral cooperation and relations would continue to strengthen in the years ahead.
The Bangladeshi delegation arrived in Tehran on Thursday to attend the state funeral. Upon arrival at the Iranian capital’s airport, Speaker Hafiz Uddin and his delegation were received by Iranian parliament deputy speaker Hamidreza Haji Babaei.
