Proper use of chemical fertilizers urged

A Correspondent:

Dinajpur: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain yesterday advised the agriculture department to ensure the proper use of chemical fertilizers.
He said, “There is an adequate stock of fertilizers. No shortage of any type of fertiliser or agricultural input should be allowed to occur during Aman paddy cultivation.”
The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the monthly law-and-order meeting of the district administration held at the conference room of the Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner.
Dr Zahid said, “Among all the districts, Dinajpur is a border district. As a result, various types of narcot-ics easily enter the district from neighboring countries. Law enforcement agencies must remain vigilant and strictly prevent the entry of drugs into the country from neighboring countries.”
Referring to the government’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs, the minister instructed law enforce-ment agencies to conduct strict drives against drug-related activities.
He said, “No mercy will be shown to drug traffickers, transporters or users.”
He further said, “Dinajpur is a food-producing district, and paddy transplantation is still ongoing for the upcoming Aman season.
“There is no shortage of fertilizers in the country; there is an adequate stock. The agriculture department has been directed to ensure the proper use of chemical fertilizers. If the right amount of fertiliser is used in paddy fields, yields will be better.”
He advised the Deputy Commissioner to provide information on fertilizer availability based on demand and assured all concerned that fertilizer requirements would be met in a timely manner.
