5 children die from suspected measles in 24 hours

Five children died from suspected measles in the 24 hours till 8am on Friday morning, taking the total death toll from confirmed and suspected cases to 610 in about 80 days.

As many as 243 people were diagnosed with measles and 1,168 others with related symptoms or suspected cases over the same period.

During 15 March-5 June, the total number of suspected measles cases reached 76,876, and the number of confirmed cases reached 9,503.

Statistics from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) further show that 62,237 patients were hospitalised during this period. Among them, 58,154 were discharged after completing treatment.

Over the 80-day period, 91 children died nationwide from confirmed measles infections. As many as 519 other children died from measles-like symptoms.
