Staff Reporter:
The committee formed to investigate the deaths of six newborns at Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in the capital’s Moghbazar area has submitted its report yesterday to Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain.
A separate committee formed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has submitted its report.
After receiving the reports Health Minister briefed media at his ministry at 4.00 pm yesterday.
“The accused often gain legal advantages when cases are filed without post-mortem examinations. But in the case of the deaths of six newborns at Ad-din Hospital, they will not be able to take any such ad-vantage. There will be no relief in this crime, and there will be no leniency in this matter,” he told jour-nalists at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat.
Earlier, six newborns died in the post-delivery ward of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in the early hours of May 27. Three separate investigation committees were formed to determine the cause of the incident.
Immediately after the incident, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare formed a three-member high-level investigation committee, while the Directorate General of Health Services constituted another three-member committee.
In addition, the Ad-Din Hospital authorities formed an internal investigation committee to examine whether there had been any lapses or negligence. The committee has already submitted its report to the ministry.
