Dinajpur: Social Welfare, Women and Child Affairs Minister Prof A. Z. M. Zahid Hossain yesterday said the use of technology is essential for sustainable agriculture.
He made the remarks while addressing a training program on water-saving irrigation technology and quality preservation techniques for crops produced under poly-shed cultivation at Ghoraghat in Dinajpur.
The program was inaugurated by the minister as the chief guest at Ghoraghat upazila. The event was or-ganized by the irrigation division of BADC under the Ministry of Agriculture.
The minister emphasized that adopting water-saving technologies is now essential for sustainable agricul-tural development.
“Due to the impacts of climate change, water availability is decreasing, making modern irrigation sys-tems crucial for agriculture”, he added.
He said BNP has been working towards improving agricultural productivity and promoting the use of advanced technologies among farmers. He expressed hope that participants of the training program would utilize the knowledge gained to enhance crop production.
At the training program, BADC Irrigation Division’s Chief Engineer Muhammad Badiul Alam Sarkar, Additional Chief Dr. Khan Faisal Ahmed, Prof. Sarah Nowrin of BUET’s Institute of Water and Flood Management, Heifer International Bangladesh Country Director Nurun Nahar, Superintending Engineer of Rangpur Irrigation Circle Abul Hasan Md. Mizanul Islam, Project Director (Water-saving and Poly-shed Construction Project, Jessore Zone) Engineer Md. Mahbub Alam, and Executive Engineer of Di-najpur Irrigation Region Syeda Sabiha Jamal presented various topics related to modern agricultural technologies.
Executive Engineer of Jessore region Md. Mazharul Islam served as a trainer, providing hands-on in-struction to farmers on protecting crops from adverse weather in poly-shed cultivation, maintaining product quality, and how such technologies can help increase farmers’ income and ensure food security.
