Labor and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury, MP has said that the outstanding wages and bonuses of workers in all industrial units across the country must be paid before the Eid holidays.
All concerned must remain cautious so that no complication arises regarding the dues payable to workers under any circumstances, he added.
The minister said this at a high-level meeting held at the office of his official residence on Bailey Road here on Friday to determine measures to resolve labor unrest in the RMG and non-RMG sectors.
He said a list of risky factories will be prepared based on the respective parliamentary constituencies and provided to the concerned Members of Parliament (MPs). The MPs will directly speak with the factory authorities and take necessary steps to ensure quick payment of outstanding wages and bonuses, he add-ed.
Ariful Haque also directed the authorities concerned to contact with banks including UCBL, Trust Bank and Premier Bank, which are delaying loan disbursement despite directives from Bangladesh Bank, to ensure prompt arrangements for loans.
He said local MPs and the administration must remain vigilant regarding those labour leaders who are unnecessarily provoking workers and trying to create disorder in the industrial sector.
At the same time, he instructed that a list of absconding factory owners and their establishments be pre-pared, saying all must remain alert so no untoward incident occurs in those factories.
The Labour and Employment Minister also assured that all officials and employees of the ministry are always ready to provide any assistance.
Member of Parliament from Dhaka-19 constituency Dr Dewan Md Salauddin, Member of Parliament from Dhaka-20 constituency Md Tamiz Uddin and Members of Parliament from Gazipur district Md Mujibur Rahman (Gazipur-1), M Manjurul Karim Rony (Gazipur-2), S M Rafiqul Islam (Gazipur-3) and Fazlul Haque Milon (Gazipur-5), along with senior government officials, among others, were pre-sent.
