Staff Reporter:
Hasnat Abdullah, Cumilla-4 constituency lawmaker and an NCP leader, has apologised for making “inappropriate remarks” about a senior BNP politician in a viral video.
The remarks were made in a “closed group discussion” during the election campaigns, but a video of the incident went viral on Wednesday, Hasnat said in a facebook post on Thursday.
In the video, a child is also heard speaking, making the situation all the more “sensitive,” he said.
“I express my heartfelt and unconditional regret over the video,” he said, adding the remarks should not have been made under any circumstances.
The remainder of Hasnat’s facebook post is as follows:
“I am firmly committed to ensuring that such unwanted incidents do not recur in the future and that mutual decency and cordiality are maintained in the political arena.
“In post-fascist politics, we do not support any culture that spreads personal attacks, hatred or hostility and undermines political goodwill and mutual respect. Healthy, tolerant and responsible political practice is what everyone expects.
