Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which achieved landslide victory in the 13th national elections, got 49.97 percent votes with ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, which won the second highest number of seats, got 31.76 percent votes with ‘Scale’ symbol, according to figures revealed by Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Director (Public Relations) and Information Office.
According to EC data, a total of 50 political parties and 274 independent candidates contested in the na-tional parliamentary elections.
Among other parties, National Nagorik Party (NCP) contested in 32 constituencies with ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol and got 3.05 percent votes.
Islami Andolan Bangladesh contested in 257 seats with Hatpakha (hand-fan) symbol and got 2.70 per-cent of votes.
Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis contested in 34 seats with ‘Rickshaw’ symbol and secured 2.09 percent of votes, while Jatiya Party contested in 199 constituencies with ‘Plough’ symbol and achieved 0.89 per-cent of the votes.
In addition, 274 independent candidates secured 5.79 percent of votes in the elections.
Senior Secretary of EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed said in the official results of the 13th national elec-tions, BNP won in 209 constituencies, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats.
In addition, he said, NCP won six seats and independent candidates won seven seats.
The EC Secretary said although voting was held in 299 constituencies, the results of two constituencies (Chattogram-2 and 4) were not declared due to the court’s directives. The results of the remaining 297 constituencies were announced and published in gazette, he said.
He said Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis won 2 seats, while Islami Andolan Bangladesh one seat, Gono Odhi-kar Parishad one seat, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) one seat, Gana Sanghati Andolan one seat and Khelafat Majlis one seat.
Besides, Akhtar Ahmed said, independent candidates won in seven seats.
He said the voter turnout in the national elections was 59.44 percent and vote casting rate in referendum was 60.26 percent.
