The government has appointed 21 officials from the BCS (administration) cadre as executive magistrates across the country to ensure strict enforcement of the electoral code of conduct in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The information was disclosed in a notification issued on Thursday (22 Jan) by the Posting-2 Wing of the Ministry of Public Administration.
According to the notification, the appointed magistrates will exercise powers under Section 5 of the Mobile Court Act 2009, and will be authorised to conduct mobile courts in their assigned areas until two days after the polling day.
The officials have been instructed to report to the respective district magistrates or returning officers by 25 January.
District magistrates will be responsible for assigning duties to the magistrates within their jurisdictions and determining the areas where mobile courts will operate.
The daily activities of the mobile courts must be reported in a prescribed format to the concerned district magistrates and returning officers.
The order, signed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Mohammad Nur-e-Alam, stated that the appointments were made in the public interest. The primary objective of the move is to maintain peace and order during the voting process surrounding the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
