Bangladesh Navy launched the Landing Craft Tank (LCT)-101 at Khulna Shipyard on Thursday, built using indigenous technology.
The launching ceremony was inaugurated by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, according to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release issued.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief of naval staff said that every member of the armed forces would sincerely perform their duties and face all challenges to ensure a free and fair election.
He added that the joint forces will also play a vital role in recovering looted and illegal weapons.
According to ISPR, the LCTs support coastal amphibious operations by carrying tanks, artillery, and armoured personnel carriers, and also assist in disaster management, humanitarian aid, and rescue missions during peacetime.
Constructed under the Navy’s supervision with technical support from Canada’s Vard Marine, each LCT can carry six tanks, twelve armoured personnel carriers, or eighteen military vehicles.
Khulna Shipyard Limited (Khushili), a leading state-owned shipbuilding and repair facility on the Rupsha River, has built over 800 vessels, handles 3,000 tonnes of steelwork annually, and generates nearly Tk700 crore in revenue.
The LCT-101 also received the ‘Green Factory Award 2025’ for its eco-friendly operations.
The event was also attended by several senior military and civilian officials.
