125 upazilas get new UNOs

The government has appointed 125 senior assistant secretaries as upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) ahead of the parliamentary election slated for February next.
The ministry of public administration issued separate notifications signed by deputy secretary Aminul Islam and senior assistant secretary Md Barman Hossain in this regard here yesterday saying the appoint-ed UNOs will have senior assistant secretary status.
The notifications said the transferred UNOs have also been serving duties in various districts, ministries, divisions and departments with the status of senior assistant secretary.
The notifications said that the government has also delegated the power of executive magistrates to those 125 BCS (administration cadre) officers under the Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 as perform their duties as executive magistrates under their jurisdictions.
It, however, said that the transferred officers will join their posted designated stations by December 4 otherwise they will be stand released from afternoon on the date.
Earlier, the government has appointed 174 senior assistant secretaries as upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs).
