BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said that Begum Khaleda Zia’s health condition was stable and her treatment continuing under doctors’ close observation.
“Madam’s condition is stable. Her treatment is ongoing under the close supervision of local and foreign doctors,” he told the media yesterday afternoon.
Since last Sunday, the BNP Chairperson has been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital. Following tests, doctors found an infection in her lungs, prompting the party to describe her condition as critical.
She has been receiving intensive care at the hospital’s Critical Care Unit (CCU) since Thursday.
A medical board, led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, comprising both local and foreign doctors, is coordinating her treatment.
The board includes Tarique Rahman’s wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, doctors from Johns Hopkins University in the United States, and specialists from London Clinic in the United Kingdom.
He added, “News about Madam Khaleda Zia being circulated in various media outlets is not correct. No one should be misled by it.”
The BNP Secretary General also urged party leaders, activists, and the people of the country to earnestly pray to the Almighty Allah for the Chairperson’s speedy recovery.
Party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, “Madam’s treatment is continuing as be-fore in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Evercare Hospital. Please, do not be misled by whatever anyone says on this matter.”
“Expert doctors are engaged in Madam’s treatment around the clock. What I’ve been able to learn from them is that her treatment is underway—that’s the update. Everyone please pray that Allah returns her to us in good health,” he added.
Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the media cell, stated that the media will be informed of the latest developments in due time.
