Govt provides financial aid to families of quake victims

The government has provided financial assistance to the families of those killed or injured in the earthquake on Friday that struck Dhaka and several other parts of the country.

Each family of the deceased received Tk25,000, while those injured were given Tk15,000 each through the respective district administrations.

Following the earthquake, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief immediately activated an emergency response centre at the Department of Disaster Management.

The centre can be reached at telephone number 02-58811651. Through the centre, preliminary data on casualties and damage have been collected in coordination with all district administrations.

Initial reports of losses have been received from Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Narsingdi, and Magura districts.

According to the available information, Dhaka reported four deaths and 59 injuries; Narayanganj, one death and 18 injuries; Narsingdi, five deaths and 110 injuries; Gazipur, 252 injuries; and Magura, 22 injuries.

In total, 10 people have been reported dead and 461 injured as a result of the earthquake.

Many of the injured have already returned home after receiving initial treatment at various hospitals.

Authorities are undertaking necessary measures to assess the overall damage caused by the quake.
