‘Don’t pay heed to rumours, contact control room’

Staff Reporter:

The government has asked the people not to pay heed to any rumours and rather contact the control room for any information and assistance regarding the strong earthquake that jolted Dhaka and several parts of the country.

“A control room has been opened instantly at the Disaster Management Department. Everyone is requested to contact the control room at the telephone number 0258811651. Besides, everyone has been requested to remain alert by not listening to any kind of rumours or confusion,” said a handout of the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry on Friday.

It said the government is committed to providing security to citizens.

A powerful quake, felt at 10:38am, shook the capital and many other districts, leaving six people dead and injuring many others across the country, it added.

Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, directed all the agencies concerned to assess immediately the damages caused by the strong earthquake in the country.

“All the agencies concerned were instructed to promptly assess possible damages on the ground. Once the assessment is completed, the findings shall be reported and necessary measures shall be taken,” he said.

The Adviser also asked the agencies to closely monitor the situation and take necessary measures. “Following the strong tremor felt across various parts of the country, the ministry is closely monitoring the situation,” he said.
