Staff Reporter:
The National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is set to host a five-day training workshop on investigative journalism from 1 November.
The workshop, which is being organised under SIBE–NIMC Project, will be held at the NIMC headquarters at Darus Salam in Dhaka.
Some July Warriors, who made immense sacrifices during the 2024 mass uprising, will take part in the event. The participants were nominated from the Directorate of July Mass Uprising.
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana will attend the opening ceremony of the training workshop as the chief guest, while NIMC Director General Additional Secretary Noor Md Mahbubul Haq will preside over the event.
Under the Support the Improvement of the Broadcasting Environment (SIBE–NIMC) Project, participants will receive hands-on training in the principles, techniques, and ethics of investigative journalism, including fact-checking, source protection, interviewing techniques, data journalism, visual storytelling, documentary production, as well as legal and ethical reporting practices.
Through this programme, the participants will gain practical knowledge and storytelling techniques to produce impactful investigative reports and contribute to public welfare.
As part of the project, the Korea Radio Promotion Association (RAPA), with financing from the Government of Korea, has provided modern TV studio equipment and a Media Asset Management system. A shooting van is expected to arrive by December 2025, further enhancing NIMC’s technological capacity and training facilities.
To date, the SIBE–NIMC Project has organised 13 training sessions and workshops, empowering more than 300 journalists and media professionals. Many trainees have already produced reports that have significantly contributed to public awareness, accountability, and good governance.
This upcoming training workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of young freelancers in investigative reporting, promote fact-based journalism, and ensure transparency and accountability in the country’s media landscape.
