The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested four and recovered 190 bhoris of gold stolen from Fortune Shopping Mall in the capital.
The arrestees are Sahin Matbaar alias Shahin, 46, Anita Roy, 31, Nurul Islam, 33, and Uttom Chandra Shur, 49. They were arrested form Barishal, Chattogram, Narayangang, and Dhaka respectively.
Md Shafiqul Islam, chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), on Friday, said all four of them were professionals and conducted the theft after recceing the shopping mall for three months.
“They were earlier arrested for their involvement with the gold theft at Chattogram’s Karnafuli Market in 2021. After getting bail, they become involved with the theft again,” he added.
As per the police officer, the jewellery store owners filed a case in connection with the theft and alleged that approximately 500 bhoris of gold and Tk40,000 in cash were stolen.
One person involved in the looting is yet to be arrested and an investigation is ongoing to recover the rest of the gold, the police official added.
