Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Friday described the incident of July Fighters protesting on the streets before the signing of the July Charter as “shameful”.
Speaking at a workers’ rally organised by the party’s Mirpur (Dhaka-15) unit, Shafiqur said many demands have been met for some groups while the July movement’s own supporters remain deprived.
He accused the authorities of continued, large-scale corruption and said Jamaat has been uniquely persecuted in Bangladesh’s history.
Shafiqur asserted that Jamaat has not pursued personal revenge against anyone since the July movement and pledged that, if Jamaat were to form a government, it would not allow extortion.
He vowed that legitimate demands would be met without forcing workers to protest and suffer on the streets.
