BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman is expected to return to Bangladesh from London between November and December this year, ahead of the upcoming national election, according to his foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kabir.
Speaking to local journalists following a civic gathering in Sylhet city on Thursday afternoon, Humayun Kabir said the return timeline would be aligned with the announcement of the next parliamentary election schedule, which is likely to be unveiled at the end of the year.
“The schedule for the next parliamentary election is expected around the year-end. Based on that, Tarique Rahman is likely to return between November and December,” he said.
Humayun also emphasised that necessary security measures are being taken with the utmost seriousness to ensure the safe return of the BNP leader.
“The international community has shown growing interest in the BNP. Under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, the party will participate in the upcoming general election.”
He further added that if the BNP secures a victory and forms the next government, Tarique Rahman would assume the role of prime minister.
Referring to a recent meeting with the United States ambassador, Humayun Kabir said that while the meeting was primarily a courtesy call, it included discussions on Bangladesh’s evolving political landscape.
“Tarique Rahman’s perspectives, and his vision for governing the country if elected, were among the key topics discussed,” he noted.
