BSF pushes in 21 Rohingyas into Bangladesh

A Correspondent:

Sherpur: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) pushed in 21 Rohingyas, including women and chil-dren, into Bangladesh through the Nakugaon border in Sherpur on Thursday night, according to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The incident occurred around 1:00am on Thursday (July 24) when the group was forced across the bor-der through Gate No. 3 near border pillar 1416, said Lt Col Mehedi Hasan, commander of BGB Battal-ion-39 in Mymensingh.
The group, comprising five men, five women and eleven children, is currently being sheltered at Naku-gaon Government Primary School.
According to BGB, all 21 are Rohingya nationals who fled Myanmar in 2017 and were living in the Balukhali refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. Later, they illegally crossed into India with the help of traffickers and began working as laborers in hotels and homes in Jammu and Kashmir.
About a month ago, Indian police detained them during a raid for residing in India illegally. Upon iden-tifying themselves as Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh camps, the Indian authorities handed them over to the BSF.
Subsequently, the BSF forcibly pushed them into Bangladesh, said BGB officials.
BGB is currently investigating the matter further and coordinating the next steps regarding their status and legal proceedings.
