Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus has asked the authorities concerned to prepare a list of people killed in the defeated Awami League-sponsored acts of terrorism over the last 15 years.
The chief adviser came up with the directive while talking to parents of Shaheed Abrar Fahad at the State Guest House, Jamuna, in the capital Dhaka on Thursday.
Abrar, a second-year student of the electrical and electronics engineering (EEE) department of Buet, was beaten to death by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (now banned), at the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall on 7 October 2019.
“Just prepare a list of the people who were killed over the last 15 years in attacks carried out by Awami League men, terrorist organisations and the state agencies in line with the order of the then government,” he said.
Claiming that Abrar was brutally beaten to death and the entire nation was stunned following the incident, the chief adviser said that a fair trial will be conducted in this connection.
“Every single killing of the Awami League and its political goons will be investigated based on the list,” warned the chief adviser.
Besides, investigations into the allegation of killing spree conducted by the state agencies in line with the directive of the then government are underway, he said, adding that the government has already taken some measures in this connection.
During the meeting, Mohammad Barkat Ullah, father of Shaheed Abrar Fahad, urged the chief adviser to expedite the trial of his son’s murder.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court has sentenced 20 Buet students to death and five more to life imprisonment for killing Abrar for his social media post criticising the Bangladesh-India deal on sharing the water of the Feni River.
