A Dhaka court on Thursday sent Sheikh Walidur Rahman Hira—cousin of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League leader—to jail in connection with the murder case of Amir Hossain during the July Movement in the Uttara West police jurisdiction.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman issued the order after the police submitted a plea for Hira to be kept in custody.
Earlier on Wednesday, he was arrested by police from the Vatara police station area.
According to case details, Amir Hossain took part in the protest on 5 August last year during the July Movement near Jasim Uddin Road under Uttara West Police Station, where he was shot by gunfire allegedly from the accused.
He was taken to the hospital with injuries but died later that evening. On 2 November, the victim’s father, Khorshed Alam (57), filed a murder case with Uttara West Police Station.
