Vice-president of the National Consensus Commission Prof Dr Ali Riaz has called upon the political parties to reach a consensus on the unresolved issues to prepare the July Charter quickly.
“Reach a consensus on unsolved issues by holding brief meetings to prepare the July Charter quickly,” he said.
He made the call while delivering his opening remarks at the beginning of the 18th day of the second phase of the day-long discussion at the Doyel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy in the capital yester-day.
Keeping in mind the scarcity of time, Prof Riaz called for a quick decision on nationally important is-sues which are still unresolved.
“Although there is consensus on various issues, some fundamental issues still need to be discussed,” he said.
Yesterday’s topics of the discussion are the Election Commission, Public Service Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, provisions for the appointment of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the Ombudsman.
Earlier, in a meeting held on July 20, the NCC gave a ‘coordinated proposal’ to political parties on the outline of the caretaker government.
It has proposed to select the Chief Adviser of the caretaker government through a parliamentary selec-tion committee.
Meanwhile, at the beginning of the meeting yesterday, leftist parties including Communist Party Bangla-desh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) staged a 10-minute symbolic walkout in protest against the attack on students and teachers of the Milestone School and College by law enforcement agencies following the casualties caused by a fighter jet crash at the Milestone School in the capital Ut-tara area on Monday.
After their rejoining, Ali Riaz said they welcome the exercise of democratic rights of every political par-ty.
“We think their statements have been presented before the nation, and the government will consider those,” he said.
Representatives of 28 political parties including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam, National Citizen Party (NCP), Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, and Gana Sanghati Ando-lan are participating in the discussion yesterday.
