BNP probe body to investigate Mitford murder

Staff Reporter:

BNP has decided to form an investigation and fact-finding committee to investigate the underlying cause of the brutal murder on the Mitford Hospital premises in the capital recently.
The investigation committee will uncover the real truth in the incident and it will be made public, said the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He said this at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan yesterday morn-ing.
Fakhrul said BNP’s party position on speedy trial and exemplary punishment for every murder is firm and unchanged.
“To investigate the underlying cause of this brutal murder, we have decided to form an investigation and fact-finding committee consisting of appropriate individuals who will uncover the real truth and it will be made public,” he said.
Fakhrul further said, “However, I would like to express my determination to identify and prevent those who want to spoil the political environment and obstruct and make the national elections uncertain, and in other words, create a path for the rise of fascism.”
Fakhrul said there is ample reason to suspect whether this murder is being used for any political gain or not and that such an incident is being used — as an excuse at the instigation of a special group — to dis-rupt the environment for the upcoming national elections.
Noting three brutal murders in Muradnagar, Cumilla, the killing of a mosque imam in Cumilla, the kill-ing and cutting tendon of Jubo Dal leader Mahbub Molla in Khulna; he said the question of whether eve-ryone’s protesting voice was equal in such a murder can also be raised.
Fakhrul said there is enough reason to believe that Mitford’s murder is being used to implement political malice to create a planned unstable situation in the country.
There is enough reason to raise questions in the public mind about the entire incident as there was no resistance to such an incident in broad daylight in front of numerous people, despite the close proximity of law enforcement agencies, he said.
Stating that a planned conspiracy has begun against the top leadership of the BNP, the BNP Secretary General said, this is a well-planned and purposeful slander against the country’s largest and most popular party, the party’s top leader, who is not just an individual, but the main leader and architect of the movement to overthrow the dictatorship that has been going on for a long time and is the soul of the people’s uprising.
“We express strong protest, condemnation and hatred against such obscene and ugly statements made publicly against him,” he said.
