Mother makes fake bomb threat to stop son’s extramarital trip: RAB DG

Staff Reporter:

In a dramatic twist, the authorities have revealed that a woman staged a fake bomb threat to stop her son from flying overseas with his extramarital partner.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman said at a press conference on Saturday that the alarming phone call was received on Friday (11 July), claiming that there was a bomb on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 373, which was preparing for departure from Dhaka to Kathmandu.

The threat caused panic and forced airport authorities to halt the flight, evacuate all passengers, and launch an emergency bomb search.

After a two-and-a-half-hour operation, the bomb disposal unit confirmed that there was no explosive device onboard.

According to RAB’s initial investigation, the passenger in question was traveling with his extramarital partner — a fact that was discovered by both his wife and mother. In a desperate attempt to stop the affair, the man’s mother allegedly made the fake bomb threat to air traffic control.

“This call was made solely to prevent the son from continuing his extramarital relationship,” the RAB chief stated.

So far, three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

After receiving security clearance, the Boeing 737-800 aircraft resumed its journey and departed for Kathmandu later that night.

Authorities have condemned the misuse of emergency systems and are continuing their investigation.

Legal action is expected against those responsible for the hoax, which disrupted airport operations and caused distress to passengers.
