Expressing frustration over the rampant upsurge of corruption and extortion in the country, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has warned that the people are going to experience another mass uprising immediately against the corrupt and extortionists.
“Note it down, this mass uprising will take place against the corrupt and extortionists. We must win the movement, likewise that of the July mass upsurge,” he said while addressing a public rally held in Jashore on Friday.
The NCP leader sounded the note of caution when the chief adviser ordered the authorities concerned to complete all preparations by December to hold the national election before a week of Ramadan to be observed in February next year.
Nahid, also a former adviser of the interim government, came down heavily on those who want to brand his party as anti-election and said the NCP first wants the trial of the cohorts of the immediate past fascist government, implementation of the reform agendas and then national election.
“We, the countrymen, will never accept any election without holding the trial and implementing the recommendations of reform commissions. Those who want an election without trial and reform are engaged in hatching a conspiracy,” he said.
Pointing a finger at BNP, he said the party claimed that they have crores of voters and supporters across the country and called upon the countrymen not to be afraid of the number.
“We saw during the July uprising which party possesses how much power in the country. It doesn’t need billion of people to stand against corruption. One person is enough,” said the NCP leader.
The political parties, those came to power so far, have destroyed the country’s democratic institution by indulging in limitless partisanship, he said, adding that deposed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina did the same over the last 16 years.
“We, from now on, will never accept such partisanship of any political party. Police will act to ensure the safety and security of the people’s lives and properties, while the Army will protect the country’s independence and sovereignty and will not be involved in any incident like enforced disappearance,” he said.
