Issuing certificates for July martyrs ‘a bit difficult’: Adviser Sharmin

Staff Reporter:

The government is finding it a “bit difficult” to issue certificates for all the martyrs as there were too many participants in last year’s anti-fascist movement, said Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmin Murshid on Friday.

The adviser informed reporters about the challenges during a surprise visit to the houses of two martyrs at Tongi, Gazipur.

She conceded that the government has failed to reach out to the families of all those martyred in the July-August movement last year with financial support, even though nearly a year has passed since the administration took office.

But, the government is working to reach out to all the families and provide certificates for the martyrs, she noted.

“There are allegations that we are not contacting the participants on time. [However] Even if we face delays we want to reach out to all the families of the martyrs,” she said, adding the government would not let the sacrifices go in vain.

During the visit, she offered prayers at the graves of July Martyrs Marwa and Nafisa. She also met the families of the martyrs, and handed over financial grants.
