However, Khulna and Barishal divisions saw higher rainfall than the normal average.

The highest rainfall 180 mm was recorded at Kutubdia on 1 June.

A mild to moderate heat wave swept many places over the country during 1-3 and 6-15 June due to the presence of a thermal low-pressure area in West Bengal and the adjoining western part of Bangladesh.

At this time, the highest maximum temperature was recorded at 38.8 degrees Celsius at Dimla on 14 June, and the temperature was recorded at 21.5 degrees Celsius at Tangail on 3 and 11 June.

Maximum, minimum and mean temperatures were above normal by 0.5 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degrees Celsius and 0.4 degrees Celsius, respectively, in the month.

Observed rainfall, heat wave, temperature, cyclone and river conditions were consistent with the forecast of June 2025, said Dr Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik, a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

In Dhaka, the average recorded rainfall was 224 millimetres, 33% lower than the normal average of 335 millimetres, while it was 385 millimetres, 13.9% lower than the normal average of 447 millimetres, in Mymensingh, 527 millimetres, 14% lower than the normal average of 613 millimetres, in Chattogram, 316 millimetres, 49% lower than the normal average of 619 millimetres, in Sylhet, 224 millimetres, 20.3% lower than the normal average of 281 millimetres, in Rajshahi and 307millimetres, 26.5% lower than the normal average of 418 millimetres, in Rangpur.

However, Khulna and Barishal divisions witnessed higher rainfall than the normal average rainfall in June, with the former recording 313 millimetres, 6% higher than the normal average of 296 millimetres and the latter 523 millimetres, 12.3% higher than the normal average of 456 millimetres.

A low-pressure area formed over the southwestern part of Bangladesh and the adjoining area on 17 June. It intensified into a well-marked low over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining southwestern part of Bangladesh on 18 June.

On 19 June, it moved northwestwards and lay over northeast Jharkhand and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal. Afterwards, it weakened giving precipitation and became unimportant on 20 June.

Another low-pressure area formed over the Northwest Bay and adjoining area on 25 June and it became unimportant on 27 June. It was followed by another low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay and adjoining West Bengal & Bangladesh coast on 29 June. It lay lay over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas on 30 June.

Due to active monsoon, heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at some places over the country in this month.

The Met Office also forecasted that in July, rainfall is likely to be normal over the country. One or three low-pressure systems are likely to form over the Bay of Bengal, and one of them may intensify into a monsoon depression.

There is a possibility of 5-6 days of thundershowers with lightning flashes at places over the country in this month.

According to the BMD, 1-2 mild (36-37.9)°C heat waves are likely to occur at places over the country, and day and night temperatures are likely to be above normal over the country.

In early July, the water levels of major rivers in the country are likely to rise overall. The rivers are likely to reach normal flow level in the second half of the month.
