Hasnat demands state reforms, justice for July massacre before polls

Staff Reporter:

Hasnat Abdullah, NCP’s chief organiser for southern region, on Friday reiterated his party’s preconditions for joining the next general elections: roadmaps for ensuring justice for the state-sponsored mass killings last year, and implementation of crucial state reforms.

He told reporters about the party’s demands following a rally in Thakurgaon.

The rally was held as part of the “July March” programme, which the party has organized across the country to inquire after the victims of last year’s anti-fascist uprising, Hasnat informed reporters.

“The elections must be held, there should be no doubt about that,” Hasnat said. However, in the same way some politicians are demanding a roadmap for elections, the NCP is demanding the implementation of crucial state reforms and completion of fair trials against Awami League fascists as the prerequisites for holding elections.

One journalist asked Hasnat about the “united nationalist force” and “those against it” referred to by some NCP leaders.

In reply, Hasnat said his party stands united with all those who believe in the non-communal spirit of coexistence of all religions, languages and cultures – as well as those believing in Bangladesh’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Then, in a threatening tone, he blasted those who stand against sovereignty to fulfill their “petty personal interests and pocket some unlawful money.”
