People don’t want to see AL in politics: Fakhrul

Staff Reporter:

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the countrymen do not want to see the Awami League in politics.

“When you are holding a rally here, another rally is taking place in the New Market area and [another one in] Dhaka, demanding a ban on the Awami League,” he said while addressing a mammoth youth rally in Chattogram city.

The BNP’s associate bodies – Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal – organised the event at Railway Polo-ground on Saturday afternoon.

“Not only those present here, all the 18 crore people of the country don’t want to see the Awami League [in politics]. Because, they have unleashed torture on the people of Bangladesh since the independence, destroyed the democracy, and introduced one-party rule.”

Fakhrul said, “But, it is our misfortune that those who have been given the responsibility to take back the country to a democratic system have yet to do the right work properly.”

Mentioning that the country is passing through a tough time, he said, though Sheikh Hasina has fled, her accomplices are still active and hatching conspiracy in a bid to establish their empire in Bangladesh again.

Calling for national unity, the BNP leader urged the authorities concerned to complete the necessary tasks to restore democracy in the country.

The vision of the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman is to awaken the youth, who ousted Sheikh Hasina, again to realise their rights foiling all conspiracies, he added.
