NCP Chief Organiser Hasnat Abdullah on Friday announced an indefinite blockade of the Shahabagh intersection, to press home the demand of banning Awami League (AL) as a political party.
The party led other student-people protesters in enforcing a blockade at Shahbagh intersection on Friday afternoon.
Earlier, at 2.45pm, NCP organised a rally in front of the Hotel InterContinental near the Shahbagh intersection. Activists from different other political parties as well as non-political civilians, mostly students, took part in the rally.
In the rally, Hasnat said Bangladesh would see real progress when it would achieve the title “Bangladesh Without Awami League.” Students and others have joined the rally to achieve this feat, he said.
The interim government, however, has not heard the cries from the rally, Hasnat claimed. The government has not heard the agonies of people injured in the anti-Awami League uprising last year, he alleged.
NCP leaders and activists launched their street movement on Thursday night by besieging State Guest House Jamuna, the official residence of the Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus. As of Friday afternoon, the siege was continuing in parallel with the blockade at Shahbagh intersection.
