A Dhaka court on Friday placed Mehraj Islam, 20, the prime accused in the case filed over the killing of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of Primeasia University, on a five-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub passed the order after police produced Mehraj before the court and sought a 10-day remand for interrogation.
A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested Mehraj, son of Nurul Islam Sardar of Banani’s Hajaribari area, from Gaibandha Sadar upazila on 23 April.
On 19 April, Zahidul Islam Parvez, a third-year student of the university’s Textile Engineering Department, and his friend Md Tariqul Islam were attacked with sharp weapons in front of the university in the capital’s Banani area.
Parvez, who suffered critical injuries, was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
On 20 April, Parvez’s cousin Humayun Kabir filed a case with Banani Police Station, naming eight individuals and accusing a total of 25-30 people of involvement in the crime.
