‘Zero tolerance’ policy against corruption taken in judiciary

Staff Reporter:

In line with the 12-point directives earlier announced by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed, the ‘zero tolerance’ policy has been taken against corruption in judicial service delivery.
As part of it, a bench assistant has been temporarily suspended and action has been taken against him under the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Act, a press release signed by Md Shafiqul Islam, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) said yesterday.
Earlier on September 18, the Chief Justice issued 12-point directives to all officers and employees of the Supreme Court to ensure transparency and accountability in professional work, including facilitating judicial services.
One of the 12-point directives is to abstain from all types of financial transactions while performing pro-fessional duties.
However, recently, a local online media “Sangbad 24 Ghanta”’ published a report on allegations of brib-ery, irregularities in document management and excessive payment against Bench Assistant Mohammad Nazrul Islam, working in the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Rajshahi.
Followed by the 12-point of the Chief Justice, the Supreme Court ordered the temporary suspension of Bench Assistant Mohammad Nazrul Islam as part of adopting a “zero tolerance” policy regarding any corruption in the provision of judicial services.
In addition, an order has been issued by the High Court Division directing the Rajshahi District Judge to complete the necessary investigation in this connection and submit a report within 30 days, the release added.
