Staff Reporter:
BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan has said that his party does not see the need for a movement right now to mount pressure on the government to hold the next general election immediately.
However, Khan, also one of the key policymakers of BNP, expressed his optimism, saying that the interim government would hold the national election by December, fulfilling the people’s expectations.
He was talking to reporters after emerging from a meeting with the 12-party alliance held at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
BNP held the meeting to discuss several issues, including expediting the national election and the role of the 12-party alliance amid the country’s prevailing political situation.
While talking to the reporters, Mustafa Zaman Haidar, chairman of the 12-party alliance, said it is possible for the government to hold the next general election by December this year.
Haidar also urged the incumbent government to announce a specific roadmap for the 13th parliamentary election as soon as possible to erase confusion from the people’s minds.
The 12-party alliance also raised their demand for ensuring ouster of the elements of the fascist regime from the public administration and trial of those responsible for genocide during the July-August mass upsurge, he said.
