Students of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute on Friday took part in a procession in the capital’s Tejgaon area, wearing shrouds, to press home their six-point demand.
After the Friday prayers, the students began their march from the Polytechnic Institute mosque, crossed the Satrasta intersection and returned to the institute.
Most of the students wore “shroud bands” around their heads, and some wore shrouds from neck-to-toe. The protesters rejected all previous talks held with government officials, and warned of stronger movement if their demands are not met.
Mashfiq Islam, a key protest leader, said they would soon enforce carefully calibrated stronger movement that would avoid causing public sufferings.
Jubayer Patwary, another student leader, however, differed saying road blockades and rail blockades are being planned. He also called on all organisations of professionals to support the movement.
