Sarjis Alam, convener for the North region of the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP), has expressed optimism about seeing Prof Mohammed Yunus, chief of the interim government, serve as the country’s prime minister for the next five years.
In a post published on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, Sarjis shared his opinion, which will add extra fuel to the ongoing political rhetoric.
“My lifelong aspiration will be to see a statesman like Prof Dr. Muhammad Yunus as the prime minister of an elected government in Bangladesh for five years,” he said in the post.
Yunus took charge of the state on 8 August following a fall of Awami League government in the face of a student-led mass upsurge on 5 August.
The NCP leader posted the status when BNP has been mounting pressure on the Yunus-led interim government to hold the national election as early as possible.
