Bangladesh Bank has announced that four state-owned banks—Sonali, Janata, Agrani and Rupali Bank—will remain open on Friday (March 28), despite the beginning of the nine-day Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.
In a circular issued on Thursday, the central bank informed the managing directors and chief executives of the four banks about this decision.
The banks will operate from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, with transactions allowed between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. A break for Jumu’atul Wida prayers will be observed from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, as per the central bank’s directive.
The circular explained that the banks would remain operational to facilitate the withdrawal of salaries and allowances for MPO-listed teachers and employees under the Secondary and Higher Education Division ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The decision has been made in the public interest under the authority granted by Section 45 of the Bank Companies Act, 1991.
The central bank has also assured that officials and employees on duty during this period will receive allowances according to the regulations.
