BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince has said that the ongoing discussions about the Awami League, which he termed a ‘genocidal enemy of the people,’ are unwarranted and undesirable.
He said, “The Awami League has been swept away by the bloodshed of the student mass uprising and no longer has any right or opportunity to engage in politics. The party has become irrelevant in Bangladesh’s politics.”
Prince made these remarks as the chief guest at an Iftar party organised by Wards No. 7, 8 and 9 of Haluaghat Municipal BNP in Mymensingh on Friday evening.
In his speech, Prince said that instead of swiftly holding elections after necessary reforms and ensuring justice for the ‘genocidal’ Awami League, debating whether it should be allowed to engage in politics is a betrayal of the martyrs and contradicts the aspirations of the student uprising.
He warned that such discussions would only encourage fascism.
Calling for unity among all forces in the July movement, he cautioned that any discord could push the country into a severe crisis.
Speaking about the urgent need for elections, Prince stressed that only an elected government can ensure stability, discipline and full-fledged democracy.
He referred to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s 31-point state reform plan, accusing the Awami League of dismantling the state structure to establish authoritarian rule. He emphasised the need for rebuilding the state and said that Tarique Rahman’s reform plan provides a clear roadmap for political and structural transformation.
Prince reaffirmed BNP’s and Tarique Rahman’s commitment to state reform and expressed confidence that the party’s victory in a free and fair election is inevitable.
“Once BNP assumes power through the people’s mandate, it will undertake major plans for the welfare of the country and the nation,” he added.
The event was presided over by Haluaghat Municipal BNP Convener Hanif Md Shakerullah and conducted by Member Secretary Abdul Aziz Khan.
