In separate incidents, a 19-year-old girl has been gang-raped in Jashore and a woman, mother of three children, raped in Narsingdi.
In Jashore, police have arrested four men in a case filed for raping the girl in Jhikargacha upazila, reports UNB.
The arrestees are Yasin Arafat, 22, son of Mizanur Rahman, Javed Hossain, 28, son of Zakir Hossain, Mamun Hossain Bappi, 21, son of Shariful Islam, and Aminur Rahman, 20, son of Ujjal Hossain. All of them are from Patuyapara village under Godkhali union, said Jhikargacha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Babulur Rahman Khan.
The accused were arrested on Sunday evening after tracking their mobile phones following a call received through emergency 999. The victim was also rescued from the crime scene, said the OC.
The incident took place around 3:30 pm on Sunday in a lychee orchard in the upazila.
According to police, the victim was returning from Benapole Khalabari when she got off at a flower shop owned by one of the accused, Aminur Rahman. There, she met the four men. Under the pretext of showing her a flower garden, they lured her to a lychee orchard owned by Javed Hossain, where they raped her.
Following the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police Noor-e-Alam Siddiqui and Navaran (Circle) ASP Nishat Al Nahiyaan visited the crime scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
In Narsingdi, the mother of three children was allegedly raped by a youth and the incident was reportedly filmed in Raipura upazila on Sunday night.
The accused, Rakib Miah, 32, is a resident of Rahimabad village of the upazila and is known as a drug dealer and addict.
According to complaints lodged to additional superintendent of police (admin and finance) Kalimullah, the accused raped the 40-year-old woman at her house on Sunday night and looted her ornaments.
Cohorts of the accused filmed the incident and asked the victim not to disclose the matter, threatening dire consequences.
Recording the allegations, the police official ordered the officer-in-charge of the police station concerned to take legal action in this regard.
OC Adil Mahmud of Raipura Police Station said they launched an operation to detain the accused following a directive from the higher authority.
