Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman honoured Magura’s eight-year-old rape victim as a pitiful witness of history, who has made the entire Bangladesh cry through her untimely demise on Thursday.
In a facebook post, he prayed that the Almighty might accept her as one of his most favourites and gift her with special arrangements in the paradise.
He demanded the strictest possible punishment for the culprits within 90 days. Dubbing the rapist and his collaborators as “beasts in the name of humans,” he alleged they killed the innocent child at her young days only to satisfy their ruthless cravings.
On consoling the victim’s family, the Islamic politician said he lost all his words. He prayed to the Almighty to give strength to the grieving family, near ones and the conscientious citizens to endure the sorrows.
He called for showing hatred to all such rapists and boycotting them through protests at the personal, social, institutional and organisational levels. He was careful to not support any form of mob justice in the name of “correcting the criminals.”
Bangladeshi Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, voiced similar concerns over the tragedy. The group’s President Jahidul Islam published a facebook post saying a promising life has been lost due to the strike by some hyenas looking like humans.
Jahidul claimed he was aggrieved, angered and hurt by the eight-year-old’s untimely death Thursday. He demanded speedy and maximum punishment for all the culprits.
Strict law enforcement is needed to regain people’s trust in the country’s judiciary and for erasing the trend of rapes and women abuses from the country.
