DU to verify hijab-wearing female students’ identity thru female staff

Dhaka University (DU) has decided to verify the identity of female students wearing hijabs through female teachers, officers and staff, showing respect to their freedom and privacy.

Rofiqul Isla, acting director of the public relations department of the DU, said citing a notification issued on Thursday evening.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Deans’ Committee held with Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad Khan in the chair.

According to the decision, female assistant proctors will assist in verifying students’ identities if needed.

Additionally, the feasibility of implementing fingerprint or biometric identification systems will be assessed in due course, said the notice.
