Journalists to receive digital press accreditation cards

Staff Reporter:

Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder on Thursday said the press accreditation cards will soon be issued to journalists in accordance with the new Press Accreditation Policy, 2025.

“Under the new policy, journalists will be required to submit applications for accreditation. These applications will be thoroughly reviewed within a specified period, and new cards will be issued accordingly,” he said during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy.

Azad said that until the new press accreditation cards are issued, the existing press cards will remain valid.

He said following the announcement of the new policy, there will be a requirement for digital press accreditation cards to prevent any potential misuse.

Responding to a question, the Deputy Press Secretary said the validity of the accreditation cards will be of three years, and any journalist who feels aggrieved can appeal the decision regarding their accreditation.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad also attended the press briefing.

The Press Accreditation Policy, 2025, has been introduced to regulate the issuance of accreditation cards to Bangladeshi journalists working for both national and international media outlets in the country.

According to the new policy, a media organisation will be allowed to apply for accreditation cards for up to 30 percent of its journalists, with a maximum of 15 cards per outlet.

Each media organisation must submit a recommendation for the issuance or renewal of press accreditation cards.

The recommendation must be signed and stamped by the organisation’s designated official and submitted to the Principal Information Officer.

Besides, the application must be made on the official letterhead of the media organisation, specifying the name and designation of the officials making the recommendation.
