Govt renames 12 roads, bridges

Road Transport and Highways Department has changed names of four highways and eight bridges across the country.
The ministry has renamed the highways and bridges under its jurisdiction, said a notification is-sued yesterday signed by senior assistant secretary Md Golam Zilani.
It said the 35-kilometre national highway from Jatrabari intersection on Dhaka-Mawa Highway to Mawa and 20-kilometre national highway from Pachhar to Bhanga has been renamed Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Express instead of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Ex-press.
Airport Bypass Intersection-Lalbagh-Salutikar-Kompaniganj-Bholaganj National Highway under Sylhet Roads and Highways Department has been changed from Father of the Nation Banga-bandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Highway to Airport Bypass Intersection-Lalbagh-Salutikar-Kompaniganj-Bholaganj National Highway.
Barakatia-Mirsarai economic zone connecting road under Chattogram Roads and Highways De-partment was renamed after Barakatia-Mirsarai economic zone connecting road instead of Sheikh Hasina Sarani.
Besides, Madaripur to Shariatpur via Kazirtek Bridge under Madaripur Roads and Highways was renamed as Kazirtek Bridge Shariatpur instead of Sheikh Hasina Highway.
The second bridge over Shitalakshya River was renamed to Demra Bridge from Sultana Kamal while Shaheed Abdur Rab Serniabad Bridge was renamed after Dapdapia Bridge in Barishal.
Wazed Miah Bridge over Karotoa River was renamed after Kanchdah Bridge at Pirganj in Rangpur.
Sheikh Kamal Bridge over the river Andarmanik was renamed after Andarmanik Bridge, Sheikh Jamal bridge over Sonatala river was changed to Sonatala Bridge and Shaheed Sheikh Fazlul Haq Moni Bridge over Khaprabhanga river was renamed after Khaprabhanga Bridge in Patuakhali.
Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib bridge over Koncha river was renamed after Bekutia Bridge in Pirojpur.
The order published in public interest will be effective immediately.
